Usually, kids bike sizes are determined by the wheel size of a bike and kids height, so picking the right-sized bike can be a tough task for parents. There’s also a growth factor, which can quickly make a bike unsuitable after only a few years.

What happens if your kid is between wheel sizes?
If your kid is too tall for one size and a little bit afraid with the next size, I suggest that you ask your friends if any of them have a bigger size bike for a test run. Then you can see how your little one will react. If you can’t have a short test run, then it’s always the best case to buy a bigger size bike for your kid to “grow into”. As you know, kids are growing tremendously fast.
Why is finding the right fit important for your kid?
Safety is essential, that’s why your kid should never ride a bike on which he/she doesn’t feel comfortable. Your child should be able to stand in the middle of a bike with their feet flat on the ground on either side with at least inch or two of clearance. If they lean to one side to get a foot flat down, then you know that the bike is too big for them.
When your child is riding his/her bike, he/she should be seated in a mostly upright position, and his/her legs should not be bouncing of handlebars. Legs also shouldn’t be completely stretched out at the lowest vertical position of the pedals. Knees must always be a slight bend.
Kids should also be able to turn the handlebars to their full extent without being or feeling overstretched. Younger children tend to use the handlebar more than adults, so it’s crucial that they can do that correctly and safely.
